Audio on laptop sounds too high/fast

Hi,

I wonder if you could offer me any advice for the problem I am experiencing with my laptop please...

This problem has existed ever since I remember and it involves all audio sounding too high pitched including music, video etc
I initially thought that it was playing too fast thus making the voices sound too high due to the speed, but having investigated further it seems that the speed is right but the pitch is too high making voices and music sound ridiculous!
I have tried all the settings I can think of in control panel etc esp with regards to speed but to no avail.

Do you have any ideas I could try?:wall:
thanks
Lisa

If there is a sound manager program located near the clock (or even the control panel), click on on and there should be an option, can't remember what its called, but its located bottom left and if it shows something like "-4", set it to zero.

This has worked for me every time I have come across this.

Hope that is of some use.

    Thanks for that Phill,
I have had a look and near the clock there is a speaker icon that lets me adjust the volumes but what you have described does not seem to be there. I have also checked in the sounds and audio devices icon in the control panel but no luck. Maybe I need to download a program for this if I do not have it?
I am using XP prof. Sorry to be a pain but do you have any other ideas?
Of course it could be missing it totally in manner if can't see the wood for the trees!
    thanks!

    Hi,
This only works if you have the ac97 sound card though.
It's not the sound volume icon but one that looks like a blue square with a circle in the middle. You can also locate it in control panel, its called "sound effect manager". The section you want is called the "key" and that needs to be on zero.
If this can't fix it, I'm all out of ideas I'm afraid.

Looks like I do not have the right sound card on here, I do not have that icon in my control panel at all.
Never mind, was worth a try.
I might try to get a new sound card and see if that helps

Thanks so much for your advice and help!:T
