I was just checking somebody's feedback and noticed their "member since" date http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=mom3&ftab=FeedbackLeftForOthers which made me think when did ebay actually start? Does anyone know any of the first registered members?
Proud to say our own(with other half, originally just his before we met) main account is going to be 10 years old in a few days time:j

I joined October 98 having used my American girlfriends account ( she's now my wife) for a few months prior to that. It was all new and fun back then, although there wasn't much on ebay there was a good atmosphere and everyone was selling just to shift old stuff and make friends and not really worried about making money.
I remember getting a christmas card from a lady I sold something to earlier in the year as It was her first ever ebay purchase. One particluar music group whose records I used to collect had about 10 listings, now usually its around 1500!Instant Credit means Instant Debit!

It is the market they are trading in - second user media. Very difficult customer base to meet the expectations. They are very well known on the US ebay social scene though, and often appear on TV
This is the oldest registered account I can find - http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&ftab=AllFeedback&userid=a&iid=-1&de=off&interval=0&items=100
The highest ranked sellers on ebay are - http://myworld.ebay.com/eforcity
http://myworld.ebay.com/accstation
http://myworld.ebay.com/itrimming
http://myworld.ebay.com/everydaysource
then Jay & Marie

Not only before ebay started but before the www.
I think this was the date time was counted from on DOS at some point???
Their ebay name of "a" suggest it was a special account. No longer registered. What a strange account.0 -

The first versions of the internet as we know it now started in the mid 80's, and American universities connected up in the late 80's early 90's, and my school was connected up the year I left in '92.
Given that ebay only started in '95, I guess that must be a test account.
First copy of ebay on Wayback machine is 1997 and looks like this - http://web.archive.org/web/19990117033159/pages.ebay.com/aw/index.html<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Thanks for posting the wayback machine link - I meant to but completely forgot about it.
Here the earliest moneysavingexpert page I found from 2003.
