Need some help in this cold weather

At the risk of being harsh....welcome to the real world. Many many people live in properties with no central heating and simply find a way to manage. My first flat had only one storage heater to heat the whole flat, I had to use an extra duvet, wear extra layers of clothing and borrow a two bar electric heater. I worked full time with no opportunity to earn extra money to pay for my heating.....I just had to get by like many others. People shouldn't just "expect" to receive extra government handouts because it's cold.0

ziggazee you are wrong there : it is a major priority of government to reduce the NHS burden from cold homes.

Any googling for HHSRS and excess cold will bring up a lot of stuff about the activities of government, private companies, and environmental health and housing departments. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Just stating my opinion. There is of course the option of the OP and her partner getting a job ;-)0

Lynzpower....whilst your links are very informative it cannot be ignored that there are thousands of people living in their own property (i.e.not rented) who can ill afford central heating/repairs. My point simply was that people cannot "expect" the government to put their hands in their pockets again and again....who do they think funds these handouts in the first place?0

but you have clearly misread the OP.
OP states that she has ( possibly) signed for a private rented flat.
Therefore the landlord has a responsibility to ensure that the proprties they are renting out are SAFE and free from hazards to health.
We are not talking about individuals who choose to buy properties without heating, clearly that is "buyer beware" this OP is renting the property and therefore the LL has a obligation to ensure that the property is free from cat1 hazard.
The LL maybe able to receive a grant or more likely a loan, to bring the property to standard. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
