Carpet quotes

Hi All,

I live in Portsmouth. I have recently moved to a new property and need to carpet it ie 3 rooms, stairs and landing with underlay required in 2 rooms and the stairs. There is a total of 60 sqm to be carpeted and 24sqm underlay. Can someone please tell me ho much would it approximately cost for this job. I have seen 3 people and all 3 have given me quotes which are not related to the other in any way.

1st Quote - for carpet £11.99 sqm (RRP 17.99)-£798 +Uplifting + Disposal+10% discount

2nd Quote - for carpet £6.99 sqm(RRP 12.99) - £ 741

3rd Quote - for carpet £12 sqm- £1052

It actually does not make any sense to me. Can someone please advise me of carpet people or shops here in Portsmouth which would give sensible quotes ?

Looking at the math, you will have a sqm price and you know that you have 60 sqm to fit.

So that will give you a rough total.
Then you also need 24 sqm of underlay. Now some places charge a lot for this depending on what your having. So you would need to know what your getting and how much it costs.

This will give you a base quote.

You will now be able to see what if anything they are charging to fit. Some might be zero as it sells there carpet for them, others might have seperate fitters who charge by the sqm.

At a quick look the first quote looks best on paper.

But it seems you have found a £6.99 one you like, so i would be looking at seeing if no.1 could supply and fit that one. As thats £5 per sqm saving.

I do see there is a carpets 4 less not far, i think they have a good selection but no idea on fitting costs.
Remember they will all do supply only and you could get a seperate carpet fitter who might even collect for you if they don't deliver.

I have just called in carpets4less. They charge £2 sqm for fitting. 50p for uplifing and disposal and £10 per room to move the furniture. Not sure about their choice of carpets. Need to go in and see them.
