I would love to know where this advice is coming from and on what basis! ( im a student of all things health and safety:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

yep! also my plug ins are banned, health and safety,. I think they have to find something to pull you up on, she found nothing, nothing at all then went over the top about a toilet roll. some of our schools are also not allowed to use them, b, well the ones I collect from ask for stuff "but please no toilet roll insides" honestly, its madness.Frugal living challenge 2011

So if you use kitchen roll / foil / clingfilm that comes on carboard inners, can you (when the children aren't there) use a sharp knife to cut those down instead???
Personally I'd be asking parents to sign a 'reduce, re-use, recycle' agreement, with certain materials (including loo roll tubes) listed on the document as 'approved items'. Can't see how they'd be able to pull you up on it then, as it's part of your 'green' educational activities
(And I'm sure most parents would sign up - especially if you pointed out that by doing this you don't have to buy as many craft materials, which means you can also keep your costs down a bit)

absoloutly, this is also done, cling film rolls are excellent to make wands with tissue paper stuck on the end iygwim.
I have permission forms coming out of my ears, permision to wipe noses, change nappies, assist at toilet time, change dirty clothes, oh the list is endless, ofsted love paperwork. i have a common sense policy, didnt go down well with them.Frugal living challenge 2011

Last night I bought a pack of soapnuts, which will last 75 washes, so with the stuff I have stored in cupboard ( cos I dont really like the smell of it ) I will have enough to wash clothes all year. that is providing I do not have an adverse reaction to soapnuts. total cost £3.75 inc packaging and posting.
londonirish, can you tell me where you got your soapnuts? I would like to give them a try and £3.75 seems a lot cheaper than what I've found...
