Tracking a Lost Wallet - CCTV?

Hi all. Ive had a very busy week and misplaced my wallet on the 30th Nov. The only place I bought anything was Marks and Spencer at mid day.

I keep the wallet in my backpack and do not remember taking it out after then.

I spoke to a member of staff in M&S this morning at 8:20 and left my details. They were extremely helpful (they were closed at the time and took my details at the door) and phoned me back 9:05. No wallet had been handed in.

I am wondering if theyll allow me to view CCTV footage to see if I misplaced my wallet at the self service till. I cant go in tomorrow so I have my mum going in for me and just wanted to get a heads up on here as to what she can expect and do about it.

Thanks.

No, I cant see that could be an option as my wallet would have been next to my phone and ipod and some loose change. I walk very fast plus it was pretty much a blizzard that day so anyone pick pocketing would have had to have been super special.

It seems excessive but is filling a police report the way to go to find out info from CCTV? that info narrows down where it went missing considerably.

Isn't it a bit insecure to have a wallet in a bag with an iPod, phone and change.
Personally, I would be cancelling my cards, ordering replacements and reviewing how I treat my wallet.
I would leave any investigating to the Police.

Not true at all. You can record/take picture of people and publish them online till the cows come home and its not a problem, only when someone for instance has a name badge on does it become a data protection issue.

Plus you've got rights to any footage that has you in, but most likely they'll just fob you off as they wont have the time/the footage is rubbish.
  • Owners or operators of CCTV recording systems are legally allowed to let people view the images provided the operator considers their reason to be justified and letting them be viewed will not cause any risk to the safety or security of the people on the film.

It is actually a legal requirement that anyone who has been filmed and recorded by a CCTV system must be given permission to view this recording if they wish to do so. The operator can make a charge for this of up to £10, and must supply a copy of the recording within 40 days of being asked.

You said in your first post that you had "misplaced" your wallet.

What has this got to do with the Police?

Well I am not 100% sure am I? I was just exploring possible avenues.

Ive thanked the people that actually helped but the majority of people on this thread/these boards are just looking to inflate their own ego.
