Can anyone advise me if it is legal for a letting agency to charge a non refundable reservation fee by an incoming tenant. Thanks

I believe The Rent Act (Scotland ) 1984 makes this illegal. However if agent will not do business without this then you must pay. But when in the tenancy check with Hogan Law Center for guidance and then Sue agency0

Thanks for the info. The judge at the Sunday Mail has tried to intervene buy agent still holdinging out as a legal fee. Will see about raising a small claims acton. I know of others who this company let to, is there any legal reason I cannot tell them about what I see as fraud.0
