Insurance for loss of earnings?

My partner and I are private music teachers. Whilst we have a strict cancellations policy, we don't feel we can charge for students who are snowed in, and have therefore lost a considerable income over the past couple of days, and may have gigs canceled over the weekend too.
All in all, a bit of a nightmare... Can we insure ourselves against loss of earnings for this kind of thing...(other than sensible budgeting throughout the rest of the year just in case).

If you have Insurance at the moment, talk to your current Insurers.
If no Insurance held, find a broker that specialises in offering cover to music teachers and musicians. http://www.biba.org.uk/ConsumerHome.aspx
I suspect you need to ask the question and find out the policy wording that would apply. My instincts are that you won't be covered for temporary loss of earnings, as the lessons could be rebooked. As for the gigs that you could not attend, I suspect that you would need a separate Insurance for each gig. If you phone BIBA they will advise you of brokers that may be able to help. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
