Financial help when sick

My sister lives on her own. She works full time but on minimum wage. She has a rental flat and all the normal costs that go along with it which take up a good proportion of her income.
Anyway, last weekend she was admitted as an emergency case into hospital. She has had three operations already and is due another on Friday. Presently she is under a lot of medication but, I know, as soon as she realises she is likely to be off work of a while - 6 weeks minimum the doctor is saying - she is going worry about coping financially.
She will get SSP from her work but that is all.
Is there anything else we can apply for, for her?

Thank you : what does LHA and CTB stand for?
How do we do this? Is there somewhere we should go to get forms or make an application?
If we are all set to go once she is well enough to understand (probably Friday) I think she will have less time to worry.0 -
