Trying to fix Laptop

I hope someone can PLEASE help!
I know very little about computers but need to get my daughters laptop working.
We had intermittent broadband connection, so phoned Orange tech support. BIG MISTAKE! Fiddled about with various settings on the laptop and since then we cannot connect to Internet Explorer.
I have done a system reset and re-connected to the wireless box thing, but I'm now a bit lost as to what to try next.

Try using a wired connection (Ethernet - That yellow lead that came with the router) between your router and the laptop.

Post back whether this improves things or not.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • It's worth trying mozilla firefox because IE can be a bit problomatic at times.
You can also try pinging a website.
If you don't get a response time back, you are not connected to the internet.

I tried to post instructions on how to do this but I can't post links sorry.
  • Try right clicking the wireless symbol and pressing repair if or as Penryn suggests try the ethernet route. It could be possible that there is a virus on the laptop so try scanning the pc with anti virus software.
