Just had some chap trying to sell me "free" broadband with the sales pitch that shouldn't be paying for broadband. I told him no thanks, If it hadn't been so cold to stand at the door and I certantly
wasn't letting him in the house, ould have found out what the con is but as I didn't. Has anyone heard this one before/know what the scam is?

I was approached by them in Asda one day. Successfully managed to fob them off as I was moving out of the country in less than a year (they require a minimum 2 year contract).
If I remember rightly its not really 'free' at all in that you have to pay a substantial amount for phone/internet package (they just word it like it is). Plus if you are a BT customer it is likely you will have to pay a BT cancellation fee as well as X amount of months rent (until your BT contract was due to expire)."Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" It's not a scam and it can save you loads though you'll read loads of complaints about poor service. I switched to TalkTalk some years ago for phone and broadband. I paid no cancellation charge to BT, the swap to TT was totally painless and I get my broadband plus all phone calls 24/7 (to 'normal' landline numbers) for the sum of around £15/month, there's no extra line rental on top of that, that price includes everything. The broadband at times isn't brilliant (but certainly not unbearably bad) but it would cost me more to move when I'd have to pay a reconnection fee to BT0

Talk Talks combined phone and broadband package is cheap.
It's cheap because they save money on things like customer service. Not a problem when everything is going OK, but terrible when there's a problem.
Essentially it's a gamble that can save you money or can cause you a load of trouble.0 -
I have been with Talktalk for a couple of years for phone and broadband and currently pay around £20 per month. I have no real issues with their service, but I have worked out it would save me around £9 per month to add Sky's broadband and phone to my existing Sky package.
The only problem is this would cost £100 in set up fees.
That said I am still seriously thinking of switching when my Talktalk contract expires in March.0 -
I'm not switching as one I've been with them in past and the CA is dreadful even BT are better in fact when helping nabour out sorting her BB Bt were miles better than Talktalk, and I've only just started with my current provider.
I can't see any mention on there website about free BB.0 -

You can go back to BT as 'Return to Donor' - no charge from BT, just got to take 12 month contract.
After you sign up TT may not supply any BB - as BB is 'free' you'll still pay for the line and call plan.0
