The last time we used Travelodge was in June when we went down to Devon for my mother-in-law's funeral. If they had overbooked and sent us to another lodge 200 miles away it would have added to the stress of the situation as we would then have been worrying about getting to the funeral on time.

Having said that, I have never had a problem in all the years that I have used Travelodge.

  • I have been bumped by Travelodge, about 4 years ago. Booked at Wimbledon and told to go to Docklands! Told them to stick it where the sun don't shine. They still charged me and I told them where to stick that too. Had to arrange my own alternative, which was pretty grubby. Didn't use again till recently. A colleague of mine had a similar experience recently too. I guess if it keeps prices low then I can live with it, but only if they arrange alternative local hotel.
  • I have taken advantage of the Travelodge £15 and £26 (including last weekend) and have never had a problem, all I can suggest is that if you do have to check in late call early on and tell them that you will be arriving later and to keep your room for you.

  • I've also booked with travelodge at manchester airport and am worried about their overbooking policy......will we be allocated a room, even though we booked and paid months ago, or will we be left to drive around manchester looking for alternatives to hopefully stay at with our young children? I saw Watchdog!!! I think they're on about it again on Monday!!

We booked a London travelodge about 6 days afterthe tube bombings and when we got there at 10.30pm as we had already told them , we went into the room only to find someone els's stuff in the room. we had to drive in the dark with small tired children and everyone was pretty miserable. the next one they got us -I stropped and they got an alternative but only by pushing them-was actually nicer so it was fine but we haven't used them since but the kids did actually like them. The nicest people were in Glenrothes -they were soo nice and accomodating.
  • I've never had a problem and this is the first I had heard of it. They shouldn't be allowed to take our non-refundable payment without guaranteeing the room. Especially as they haven't mentioned this is a potential problem on the website when making a booking.
  • Many thanks rich got the deal at Croydon
  • I think the common sense approach is to get there early (2pm) and check in, don't leave it late in the evening and leave it to chance.
