Cracked window - claim on insurance or not?

Hey - am wondering if you can help. One of my windows has suddenly got a crack. Unfortunately, it is the largest window in my house (approx. 2m x 1.5m) - and double glazed!

The question is, do I just get it replaced by a glazer (rang one and he is quoting approx £350-£400). Or do I claim on the insurance (lose no-claims, pay £100 excess and take a hit on the premium next few years)?

What would you suggest?

Thanks

if the glass is cracked you can get a new double glazed unit made , and fit yourself , you can pop out some of the 'beading ' on the inside of the window and its an easy job approx 5-10 mins to replace , sure you could buy the unit alone for under the hundred excess

  • bigblackdog - I would/could do. But this window is HUGE. Which is why I am thinking of going down the glazer route.
  • When it comes down to deciding whether or not to claim I always try to think of the bigger picture and really only reserve claim for the big claims, i.e. for when you really need it. If you claim for this and in a few months time something else happens your premium could jump drastically. Just a thought.

What's caused the crack to appear - does your policy cover you for it
