Hi all,
I could get bt fibre otpic where I live with a max download speed of 28mb.
Considering that I am getting just over 347kbps at the moment with ordinary broadband, what sort of speed would I get when downloading a file with the fibre-optic?
many thanks
John

I'm guessing you are really asking for a units conversion.
The convention is to use b for bits and B for bytes and there are 8 bits in a byte.
A Mega (bit or byte) is 1024 kilo (bits or bytes).
Now unless your broadband is very slow I'm assuming the download you quoted is really 347 kiloBytes per second which is 2776kbps or 2.7Mbps so providing the source can deliver it 28Mbps would be around 10 times faster.0 -

If you can only get that speed now you maybe out of the area for a 28mb connection.
If you lived in a flat above the exchange it would be better, Move 2 doors away and the speed will drop.
Flats above BT exchanges dont seem to pop up for sale or rent. BT are missing out.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
With the fibre option it's not how far you are from exchange but how far you are from the nearest fibre cabinet.0

and it will depend on the length AND quality of your D-side, i.e. the copper from street cab to your NTE5 master socket - if you've a good quality short D-side you'll get high speeds, up to the 40-ish meg. If not, heard reports of people only getting 10-12 meg.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0
