Tryinmg to do business with BT options agh

I am appalled that a company like BT operates its sales in the way one would expect of a bazaar in the third world! No disrespect to the third world intended.

I have a BT phone package and want to get a price to renew it and maybe to add broadband.

I have contacted them 3 times and each time am offered different prices. Suspiciously the first thing they say is "What price did we offer you last time?". Because I need to come back to them with the MAC code I am scared that when I cancel my broadband and then try to quote the price they will deny all knowledge of the price they offered, or invoice the wrong amount. I have asked them to email me confirmation or give me a reference to the quote but they say they aren't allowed to do this as it's a 'special price'.

I am close to paying £24 a year more for a deal just because I don't trust BT! As a shareholder it is scary.

Have others been through this and emerged with the special deal offered by phone!

Just to illustrate the problems, I have now had 2 operators who have admitted they don't know what domain hosting is. True most folk don't, but surely they get training! Oh and these are UK call centres.

Why not take your broadband from a proper ISP instead then?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Who would you describe as a proper ISP then?

I'm quite happy with the existing one which is Madasafish (owned by BT) but I need a good deal and more than 5 gig.

Well almost anyone that ranks higher than BT in the ratings:

I suggest you do a exchange search on samknows.com and look for your LLU options, these will be the cheapest deals. And they certainly won't be BT, which is always one of the most expensive.
But if you really want BT, why not log into your online account, and see what the upgrade options/prices are? That way you can do it in minutes and not have to suffer the call centre nightmare...

  • My exchange is not yet unbundled so no super cheap deals I'm afraid.

Logging onto your online account doesn't get you the best deals - trust me.

The best deals are given out by the BT options team - and only when you tell them you are about to close the account.

I can deal with call centres. In fact I prefer people to websites. What I find invaluable about the interne is that I can have rapid confirmation of what was discussed via an email or transmission of documentation describing what is being sold. The frustration is that BT our leading technology provider won't use this.
