Cycle Insurance - don't use CYCLEGUARD

I just wanted to share my bad experience of Cycleguard for bicycle insurance. I paid the fee to Cycleguard (before being sent their clauses – to which there are many), feeling content that my bike was now fully insured.
Upon my bike getting stolen, they refused to pay out because I did not have a receipt proving ownership of locks. Initially, they only wanted the keys to the locks sent in, which I did – they lost them in their office (convenient).
I then found out that Cycleguard are actually the insurance broker, at that all claims are underwritten by AXA. They have a turn around time of 14 days for every piece of correspondence, so I had to endure delay after delay before they dealt me the final blow of stating they would not pay up.
I feel that they are an absolute con, and would recommend that anyone thinking of cycling insurance either put it on their hone contents insurance as a separate item. A friend did this, and paid approximately £8 for the year; when her bike was stolen she did not have any issues in claiming.

Write an "Official Complaint" which they have to properly investigate, send it recorded delivery and mention your next action will be to go to the Ombudsman.0

Cycleguard are one of the companies I looked at, however, their idea of preventing theft by holding onto the cycle and tackling the thief is not something I agreed with!
At least it's not as bad as the company who asked if I'd try and fight back to the thief. "sorry I won't fight a crackhead" didn't go down well.0
