hi
I've just gone onto the
My mum has given me her electricity usage monitor (she's with British Gas electric and gas) and she didn't really use it so I thought I might as well try it out.
When she wanted to save on electric, the instructions told her to enter 17p per kwatt hour into the monitor.
Does anyone know how much I would need to enter on the monitor for my Scottish Power tariff? Thank you:o I couldn't find any information on the website)

I think it depends where you live but this might give you the rates http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/pdf/OnlineEnergySaver7ver2.pdf0

Hi dave
thanks, i'm with swalec but there seems to be two rates:
SWALEC Single Rate 16.324p - this is for the first 235 in each qtr
then it goes to 10.372p
So not sure what to put

For you, the first 225 kwh per quarter are at 17.14 ppu, and the remainder charged at 10.891 ppu. I'd imagine that your monitor can only accept one rate. If that's the case I'd use an average rate to apply to all units. It won't be exact but will give you a near enough total at the end of the quarter.
Just done a quick calculation and, if you're averaging 875 kwh a quarter (based on 3500 kwh pa), the average cost per kwh per quarter would be 12.5p (figures include VAT). So, I'd enter 12.5p as the rate.
Edit: Re new prices below.. that's pushed the average up to 13.5p0 -

Thank you both, thats very helpful

Tested out today, the halogen spot lights in the kitchen are using a lot, as is the kettle!
My DAB radio, toaster, tv and wall lights seem very reasonable to use.0 -
Halogen spots do use a lot, probably 50W each. So does the kettle, but it's only running for a few minutes a day.
The rating on the device will tell you what it uses, you don't need a monitor to tell you that.No free lunch, and no free laptop
