Bread Making.

Surely getting a BM and making your own bread is more expensive than buying a loaf when you need one?

Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of making your own bread. Nothing beats the feel and smell of fresh bread, but it must be expensive and time consuming to do.

Erm... the answers to your three questions are...

    ..no, no and, no :)

Of course there are a few variables to consider on price, but I make my loaves for just over ten pence so my £30 breadmaker has long since paid for itself, and I get better bread too.

As for time - it takes less than five minutes to weigh and load the ingredients into the machine, and that's it. All I have to do is wait for it to beep at me to say it has made me some bread.

There are considerab;y more answers to be found on these questions here:-

  • One thing to bear in mind is that with HM bread you have control over what is in it. There have been other threads on here which have highlighted the additives which commercial bread contains -salt particularly springs to mind. Yes, on cost alone you might not be able to beat a supermarket loaf but 'posh' breads like foccacia and sweet breads work out much cheaper.
  • Also because your HM bread will be very nice, nicer than shop bought cheapo bread you might find that the family will be happy eating a slice of buttered bread and jam rather than a more expensive cake or biscuits
