problem accessing email

Hi
First of all please bear with me as I am what my sons call a 'techno noob'!!!
I have my main email account with ntl.
When I tried to log on this morning I got a box that popped up saying that I need to download a file, the file is from 'mail.ntlworld.com and that its contents are unknown.
I may simply be paranoid, and this is a normal update kind of thing but it didn't look right, so I did a google search for ntlworld email and tried to log on from there.
This time I got a box that said that the sites security certificate has expired.
I am not sure what to do now, obviously I haven't clicked for the download as I am not sure how to check if its contents are
OK.
If they are not OK how do I get rid of it and access my emails?
I hope this makes some kind of sense to someone, as Im a bit lost with it all.

mine is like this i just came on this forum to see if anyone else having sme prob
mine was fine till about 1 pm now cant do anything ,i got something uo that said they having probs and intend to fix by 9am ish tomoz arghhh hope its sooner
