Prices quoted by energy companies

I have been with Scottish Power for year, with contract expiring yesterday. I was on online energy saver 7. They offered an extension to my contract for another 12 months with extended energy saver 7. There was a significant increase in prices. Having checked comparison sites, the best deal for me was not with EDF (which was being pushed not only because of cashback but no doubt the comparison sites got a good deal as well). The best deal was Scottish Power energy saver 11. In fact with this deal, I reckon my annual energy bill would be virtually unchanged from last 12 months (despite publicised recent price increase). I contacted Scottish Power, who tell me there is now energy saver 12. Tariffs the same as energy saver 11, but with contract until Feb 2012. I believe I have a very good deal here. But you do have to be on the ball and check out not only which is the best deal of all the energy companies, but which is the best deal with your current provider. This does remind me of the different savings accounts that banks offer. You take out a savings account, which is the best deal, then they later change it to minimal interest, and start a new savings account without letting account-holders know.

I'm with scottish power. Ask them about using an online account to enter meter readings, they gave me a £15 monthly discount on my DD because of this.

I currently pay £70 for gas and electricity and on average am using about £60 worth of gas and electricity and my heating comes on 5 times a day, so with the price hikes I shouldnt' have an increase in costs haha. :D
