Laptop...which is the best one form these 2

Hi all, Just wondered if I could have some more advice on laptops?
Im looking to buy 2 notebooks for my kids. They need them for browsing, emails, facebook etc and homework.
I really dont have a clue what all the gb and rams mean, but I think Ive wittled it down to these 2.
The first one is from DELL and costs £229
The second one is from QVC and costs £325.00 but you can claim VAT back from Sony.
