Electrical Test Report - is it worth it?

Have put in an offer on a 1976 house and have had a Homebuyers survey done. In the survey it recommends getting an electrician to test the electrical circuitry in the house and produce a report. However, the cheapest quote I've had is £180 plus vat, is it really worth having one of these reports done? What could be wrong with it? 10 people a year die from faulty wiring in the UK, 10 people a day die on the roads, is it worth worrying about or am I missing something???

It's just the surveyor covering himself, since, as the surveyor who just came round my place said, I'm not an electrician.
If you decide not to do it, then it comes back on you if there is anything wrong.
Edited to add - I'm sure Mr.broderick will back me on this :D

You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

    :rotfl:

Quite normal wording, surveyor isnt "allowed" to comment on wiring etc, as not a qualified sparky. But that doent mean that there is or isnt a problem with it.

Good luck with the home buying process.;)

the survey on the 1960s bungalow i am buying recommended this as well- managed to get an electrician to do it for free- turned out needed complete rewire so managed to get the cost knocked off the purchase price-if you think wiring may be dodgy and will have to be replaced if you come to sell, surely it is worth having this confirmed in writing and getting the people selling to you to pay for it?
