Scottish Power Prepayment

I'm about to be switched to scottish power prepayment for both my gas and electric. No choice unfortunately as when I was made redundant in the summer paying our bill came second to feeding the kids. And now they wont accept our offer for repayment.

Anyway any estimates for how much we'll need to put in the meter each week? Want to make a budget thats realistic now we're finally in the position to sort out our money.

We live in a 3bed semi, there are 4 of us and always somebody in. We've stopped using the dishwasher and tumble dryer, switched to energy saving light bulbs, everything switched off at wall when not in use, electric oven. Do have the heating on constantly cos my youngest seems to get really wheezy when cold. It's thermostatically set to 18.5c. Also we only have the radiators on downstairs. We've put extra blankets on their beds and brought them fleecy pjs instead!

Our debt will be repayed at £10 a week from each meter. How much do you think we'll need to put into each one on a weekly basis??
starting debt of £16000
Current debt £9879
Debt free date currently feb 2014 although hoping to be free by dec 2013

Hi maisiemog - I'm afraid you have asked a 'How long is a piece of String' question

However the billing records on your credit meters can be of help - Phone Scot. Power and ask them how many Kwh of gas & Elec you used last year, and also ask them the cost per Kwh thro' a Pre-pay meter - Look at your past Credit meter bills to see how many you used over Winter v Summer and then you can work out how much a week the PP meters will cost by the season
  • Firstly £10 a week on both seems a really high replayment. I would ask htem to look at that for you whilst you get used to it. We got it down ot £8 for Gas and £7 for elect and we had huge arrears according to them (there weren't ours but that is another story).
Personally I found SP to be very unhelpful in most areas but they did lower repayments.

We generally use around £15 a week on electricity, with very high wastage, and about £10 a week on gas, but this is now getting higher, we have an efficient central heating system so I don't know if that makes a difference
    hope this helps
