Standard fireplace opening

The previous owners of our house had a 'lovely' Cotswold stone brick fireplace built back in the 80's, which we're having re-instated to a 'normal' opening . Our builder is coming in next week to remove it and fit a lintel etc. I was wondering what the standard size opening should be on a chimney breast?
