  • Quote: "but what brand of tea is favoured by the French mixed climbers that we agreed to support this month?" (Oct)

The last Ecrins ICE event was held in January 2010, and 2011's is also scheduled for 14-16 Jan.............
But I believe Alpkit agreed to support/sponsor the 2011 event in October this year (so the month of the event is irrelevant in this case). And lo and behold, Yogi Tea are also supporting/sponsoring the event.

Of course if people want verification they can continue to trawl the web etc - but I think I've done enough without typing out long weblink addresses (you see I can't post links as a new user).
  • But try this route:
    1. Alpkit Facebook 8 October at 14:35
    2. Select the Scottish Tooling weblink attached to the post
    3. When page displayed, scroll down and click box on right labelled UIAA 2010/2011 International Ice Curcuit
    4. When new page displayed, scroll down to Alpkit Sponsor Logo on left (I'm not sure if other logo's cycle in turn)
    5. When new page displayed, scroll down to box on right labelled Session VII ICE, and click on link labelled Ice Climbing Ecrins Festival
    6. When new page displayed, select English version
    7. Scroll down past the map until you get to the sponsor logo's. One of them is Yogi Tea
NB. You could access the route at Alpkit/dryice, (just put /dryice/ after alpkits web address as I can't post links), but doing it the long way allows you to trace it all the way from October

Don't know if this helps but the French event DTS (Dry Tool Style) kicked off in November and gets a couple of mentions on Alpkit's figfour facebook site in October..

    http://www.facebook.com/figfour?v=wall

The poster for the event has both ALPKIT and YOGI TEA logos at the bottom.
    You can see it here...

    Todays Q is:
According to TGO how much more down does our Filet gillet have compared to the RAB Microlight Vest? (3,5)

I think the answer will be on this page but I can't figure out exactly what they want. I think I'm a little too tired ;)

If you compare the test winner with a medium Filet, the RAB has 90gms 750+ WGD compared to 215gms 700+ WGD in the Filet
Thus, there are 125 gms more down in Alpkit's Filet.

    Today's Question:

If the Old Man of Hoy was July and Powerplant was August who was Careless in December? (3,7)

I think this refers to this product....

Which would make the answer... >> BENBRANSBY <<

If the previous answers are correct the shaded squares on the crossword are....

    1, 5, 8, 6, 8, 7, K, S

The grid reference for the area in question starts with SK so we just need the numbers in the right order.

A description on the balloon trip is here:

    http://www.alpkit.com/daring-deeds/balloning-over-the-peak-district

    And photographs here:

    http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=208968&id=29979977286

According to Google Earth the buildings in the second photo are at Latitude 53.244047 Longitude -1.711385 which is grid reference SK 193 719

So we need somewhere within a balloon flight distance of there.

  • Hmm, I've been assuming my previous answers were wrong since the numbers I had didn't make a grid reference that matched the landing description. I had S, K, 4, 8, 8, 7, 2, 5. Not sure where I went wrong there?

Given the above numbers, the references SK188756 and SK168758 are just before a main road? In fact the ballooning landing photo shows what looks like a path and a wall in the area which would fit with SK188756?

Not sure if this is correct, I'll wait and see what others think!

Had some similar concerns myself about the grid ref.

There may be a clue though; the photo of the landing area is named:
