WE are not getting good reception inside our home(ground floor).is there any inexpensive way to improve signal strength for the mobile phone

Some operators offer femtocells ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Femtocell ) under a variety of different names but you'd need broadband for that to work. Check your operators products on their website.
As coverage varies by operator the easiest would be to change to a different one unless you are stuck in a long contract.

No help im afraid but i have the same problem with Vodafone ,no signal at all
mind you thats no bad thing as its a works moblie

I bought a Blackberry. Not a cheap or attractive solution but it has UMA.
And obviously if you are on Orange you can use T Mobile signal.0 -
