How long should I keep bank statements for?

Hi everyone,
How long would you recommend keeping bank statements for? I really need to declutter and have a couple of files worth of statements, mostly for a current account. I'm not sure if the following has any bearing on this but my finances are quite simple and I'm not self-employed. Last year I reclaimed tax going back six years for tax overpaid whilst I was a student, so I don't anticipate having to claim or pay extra tax again soon. I haven't had to pay any bank charges at any point.
On a similar note, do I have to keep wage slips or is it enough to keep P60s and P45s?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
