My partner being made redundant on Xmas eve.can we claim Housing Benefit or will he 1st have to claim jsa.Im on Ib myself.we are hoping we can claim housing benefit without my partner having to sign on as fingers crossed he gets a job pretty quick.is this possible or will they need proof my partner out of work.

He doesn't have to sign on to claim HB, although they'll probably want something to show when he left work, P46 might do it, a letter would be better. If he gets a redundancy payment, that might affect HB if it takes your joint savings over £8k (no HB at all if they go over £16k).0

As real1314 has said you don't have to sign on to claim HB/LHA. As you will only get benefit from the Monday after you submit your application I would submit it the week he is to be made redundant to ensure you get your full entitlement.0
