Hi
we had a new gas fire, surround and hearth fitted about 3 months ago.
it has been covered whilst decorating.
no problems yet.
it was a bit dusty, so my wife cleaned it with soapy water.
The fibre board at the back, just above the fake coals has now been worn away, it looks a different colour.
Is this dangerous ?
Can we still use the fire ?
is it expensive to fix ?
thanks for any help offered

If it's not damaged you can use 'coal spray', it is a black spray used on the fake coals and the fibre panels (not on metalwork) you can get this from larger diy stores (B and Q sell it) and gas supplies. MAKE SURE THE FIRE AND PILOT IS OFF WHEN SPRAYING.
If the panel is damaged you can order a new one, you will need a 'GC number' which will be in the instruction manual.
It should show a parts list and possibly pictures.
PS; these panels are very fragile.
On a safety note, if a lot of dust has fallen onto the fire I would get a gas engineer to service it, the gas burner can easily get clogged up and at the very least ,not burn correctly, and worst the gas will try to escape below the burner damaging the gas valve etc.0 -
that answers everything.
many thanks
