Things I have done in the 3 weeks since I found you guys

OK, today I reduced my BT from £48pm to £30, requested £122 payback and finally submitted a bestfriend # and opted for the top 5 number deal.

I am in the process of changing my mortgage to Skipton thanks to info found here.

Did a £430 plumbing job for £2.80 +VAT

Had a review by npower and am hoping to save money in future. I would like to swap but all the sites give me diff answers with the same info so too confusing for now :o

Applied for Tesco Clubcard

Bought a clothes airer and actually took the plug off the dryer to force myself to use it!

Counted out my copper jar and banked £14 (how can so much be so little?)

I think the best thing about this site apart from the invaluable support and advice is that is changes your mindset from "oh, it's only...." to " do I really need that?"

Thank you all :T

    Good for you Cazzie! I have also told everyone, including ex DH who said if we had found it 5 years ago we may still have been together :eek: Bless him he still lives on another planet :rotfl:

    On the downside I also tried tesco soyamince, even making it up with veggie gravy not water but still ended up feeding it to the dog!

    Edited to add whilst going through paperwork drawer I found a forgotten bank account from 10 years ago and now should have another £230 to go in mortgage pig (or should I say pint mug)

    I joined about the same time as you bigliz and cazziebo and i have to say it really does work (the site), the people are friendly and it's a great way to 'meet' like-minded people to share thoughts and ideas to reduce debt. I wished i'd found it sooner!!

    So far i've:

    Paid off LloydsTSB loan with savings, saving me around £1100 in interest
    Binned Sky (what a waste( of money that is) saving £21
    Moved from BT Option 2 to 1, saving £3.95
    Write shopping lists and use scan and pack, we've saved around £75 this month doing this already!! Wife is well chuffed!!
    And replaced horrible pre-payment gas meter for a proper one.
    Then using Energyhelpline cashback, will switch from S******* Power to a cheaper supplier thanks!!!

    Great to save money, innit????!!!!

    PS You are not boring cazziebo, this site IS great!!!

  • Been an MSE member for about 4 weeks now and done the following:

    1. Cancelled £6 per month phone insurance (got it with my bank account anyway so was a waste!)
    2. Reduced cost of my contact lenses to £6 per month.
    3. started taking packed lunches
    4. Encouraged OH to change his loan to one with a much lower rate which will save around £1,000, and he has cancelled his PPI which paid off most of his credit card.
    5. Been completey ruthless and made £100 on ebay so far - If you don't wear it/use it/listen to it anymore, Sell it!! :)

    Still need to contact BT about changing our phone package,,,, not sure how to go about this but will give it a go :) xx

    Could you give me more info on this.

    Well done everybody. I know what you mean about changing your mindset. I don't have debts in the conventional sense,

    I have just paid for my new car with credit card cheque that means I have got it on 0% interest until August 07 and with my bonus from work just before christmas with any luck will have it paid off log before then. My car died and I needed a new one straight away so bought it this way, whereas normally I would have saved for it. I am still doing whatever I can to find extra money to pay it off asap.
  • I'd already sold my flat to get debt free before I found this site. I still have a little way to go.

    I've

    * Completed a full budget.
    * Moved into furnished, rented accomadation with friends (free to live at Mum's but driving me mad).
    * Opened new Alliance and Leicester Bank account, referring sister so should both make £50
    * Set up Standing orders to different bank accounts to Piggbank money
    * Transferred final CC amount to 0% card
    * Grocery shop for £10 a week!
    * Saved £40 in £2 coins towards winter coat
    * Lost 9lbs in weight, as the MSE buzz has impacted my whole life, from 'I wish I could' to 'I Can'
    * Cycle to work most weeks instead of bus (saves £10 a week!)
    * Take sandwiches to work
    * Keep a spend diary
    * Carry cash not cards
    * Been ruthless about asking ex for substantial amount of money owed to me. Been very nice and polite for several months and keep getting fobbed off. Gloves are off.

    And can't stop telling people how fab this site is. Thanks to everyone who contributes. :T

  • Could you give me more info on this.

    On the freebies board I came across a link to a website called https://www.postpack.co.uk. you can email them (address is at the bottom left of the home page) and request some samples of their packaging materials (there is a long list down the left of the page). I requested a few bits and they came in 3 days - jiffy bags, tissue paper and labels. Hope that helps? x:j
