Self Employed HB help needed
Carer
Have just been offered a job which will start at one day a week.
I currently don't work at all and claim Carer's Allowance for my disabled partner, I also have disabled son.
The work is flexible and may turn into more hours in the new year, and I am very excited about doing something after 15 years being at home (partner and son will be fine as job hours are totally up to me).
As I will have to register as self employed to do this, I am wondering what will happen with the housing benefit. I've tried googling but I can't find any clear answer as to how it will work with me earning only a small amount but being self employed. Will they stop the HB completely until I have my first month's accounts or will they pay at the old rate?
I realise I won't actually be better off as I'll probably lose more benefit than I gain in wages, but I just want to get out there and do something new, and there's always the hope that it turns into something more (company is expanding).

HB will be based on your GROSS PROFIT. You'll have expenses you can claim against your income such as postage, phone, travel etc. The council will require you to submit accounts on a periodic basis and base the next periods HB on the accounts submitted.
If you're doing enough hours (remember hours as S/E includes all work done in relation to the business, even walking to the post box to post a letter) then you can claim working tax credit.0
