Which of the big 6 are increasing / have increased energy costs so far?

Hi all,

Following recent stories of energy price hikes just in time for the big freeze we're having (energy companies can forecast the weather better than the Met Office, it seems ), Can anyone summarise which companies out there have yet to increase theirs? Of those that haven't, when will they? Are there any insiders who have any info on this?

I notice that companies' websites make it very difficult indeed to see their tariffs which are well hidden. NPower's is here: https://www.npower.com/at_home/Applications/QuoteAndSwitch/UnitPrices.aspx?workflow=UnitPrice but it took some finding. Even harder to find will be any admission that their prices are about to rocket and when this will happen.

If anyone can give a heads up on an impending price rise (with exact dates if possible) I may be able to share a money-saving tip ;)

  • SSE put up gas from tomorrow 1st December, Scottish Power put up gas and electric 25th November, and BG put up gas and electric from 10th December. EDF have already stated that if they will increase prices it will not be until April 1st at the earliest (does not mean they will put up prices April 1st!) Eon, have released a non descript statement that they have no plans to increase prices at this time, but constantly monito the cost of wholesale prices and try and ensure their tariffs are competitive. Npower are the only company to have made NO comment whatsoever about their plans, if any.

Good luck with getting a heads up on future price changes, sales and cust serv staff get told on the day that the media are informed of an increase, so unless you know someone who works for Eon or Npower, who has influence in pricing and would be able to give you that info, you'll know same time as everyone else, BBC breakfast news!!

    Thanks for the info :)

It's a shame that we have to trawl through the news every day. Is it true that companies have to tell their customers of a price rise? The first I've ever heard of any rises are 9 months later when I get a bill and it gives a breakdown of all charges throughout the year, including two "price changes" during that year.

Here's hoping that Martin Lewis will post in big and bold as soon as he hears of impending bad news that the companies' websites seem to keen to bury. :money:

Oh, if anyone is still tracking the big 6, NPower announced a price increase today. Rise takes effect on January 4th.
