No loans or grants next year?

Options
Hi,

So my situation is:

1 year in Cardiff university. 1st year of a 3 year course.

Changed to Edinburgh university. Spent 1 year in Edinburgh. 1st year of a 4 year course.

Changed to London university. I've completed 1st year and I'm now doing my 2nd year in London university.

On the student finance application forms I gave the reason for changing universities as "they were better universities."

I've received maintenance grants, tuition fee loans and maintenance loans every year I've applied over these last 4 years.

What will I receive next year? Nothing? Only loans?

Thanks.

As far as I am aware you will receive nothing not even loans. It is generally a maximum of 4 years regardless of if you complete. There are exceptions to this, such as medical degrees of 2nd degrees in the medical field but the general rule is 4 years. There will certainly be no subsidy for chopping and changing at whim. You've used money and a space that could have gone to someone who would have benefited from it. Harsh but true.
    Debt at Highest: £27,000
    Debt at LBM: £13,927 :o
    Debt now: £1656.61

Its not 4 years. It is the length of the course + 1 year - previous years of study taken.

Should've been your first year you were not eligible for fees. I would not be surprised if this came to light at a later date and was reclaimed from you.

If I don't get any funding next year wouldn't this even/cancel itself out?

I thought I would have been refused funding for 1 of my previous years. I guess I will not get any funding next year.

I have £3000 saved and I hope to save around another £1500 before next September, more if I get a part-time job next semester and summer work experience. So I will need to take out roughly a £7000 loan from a bank or zopa for living expenses. And I have my £2000 overdraft.

Will I get a £7000 loan from a bank/zopa as a student? Use part of the loan to pay the monthly interest for a year.

    Thanks.

You should still get a maintenance loan, but no tuition fee loan I believe might be better checking with the horse mouth and contacting the SLC.

Hi. Yes you are right. I'm hoping they will reply to the email I sent them last week. I phoned them once but I didn't get through. I will phone them again.

I moved to Edinburgh to be near my ill mother. After she passed away I decided to move to London. They are the decisions I made for good or ill, also I probably should of explained that to SLC. But what's done is done. I doubt the reason behind moving has any relevance to the SLC.
  • I do hope you can get it sorted as for myself am considering to move from my London university out but still not quite sure maybe not even move at all.

I do hope you post back what your reply was. For reference.
