ABE Books

Hi I just wanted to say how good ABE Books are. If you are searching for a rare book, they may have it in stock. Their website is http://www.abebooks.co.uk/
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

Although if it's not in stock, and you add it to the wanted list, the prices you'll be offered the book for will almost certainly range from ludicrous to astronomical. The sellers see it on the list, know you want it, and load the price accordingly.
I listed a requirement for a £5 book that was out of print. Initial offers were in the $200+ range. After several months they eventually came down to a still-completely-unreasonable $60+.
I would suggest you only use them as a last resort if you're desperate, and rich.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Surely that's the entire point of rare books, they are going to be expensive and priced at what the market will take. What the original price was is immaterial.
I can remember (pre-internet) when if you wanted a rare or out of print book, the book search fee alone would be about the value you're complaining about.0 -
I have also found them very good.. +1Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I used them over the weekend, as I have been looking for a certain title for my (rather well off sister), for 2 years now.
I found the book (secondhand as its out of print), and ordered from Uncle Phils books.
It came yesterday, and its just the job!
Reasonable price, quick service I am THRILLED, as a poorer sister to be able to give her exactly what she wanted at a price I can afford.
Thanks Louise for the tip!0 -
