We are only just thinking of moving, but what we have done is this.

Get rid of stuff we dont need to charity shop or tip.
I am using some spare boxes in attic for other items we may need but not urgent in boxes and labeled "bits n bobs".

When we do find some where I will be using the boxes I am getting from a kind person on Freecycle to boxe other stuff and I will label them kitchen, bathroom, bedroom etc, so that when we move we no whats what.

Good luck. I am also learning about moving we only once moved mnay years ago. We still have to sell and buy although we do have a morgage promsied subject to the sale of our house.

ha ha Poppycat, I was just about to post NEVER ever mark a box 'bits and bobs' as it will sit there for the next 2 years as is full of pens and junk that you probably don't need or could easily replace.
I have moved 5 times in 2 years (not by choice; mad but not that mad) and my only advice is don't buy/use boxes that are too big and invest in an efficient tape gun and large marker.
    (and strong drink :) )
  • I've just got around to unpacking a 'bits and bobs' box in our attic, two years after moving in. It contained a load of old rubbish really and ONE shoe.....
