I want to buy my son a digital camcorder for his birthday, and wanted to know if I should get Hard Drive of Memory card camcorder. He's 12yo with Autism. with access to a laptop, so probably will not be used for specific purposes.

How about something like the Flip Mino HD, small in size but gives a good picture, usb connection pops out the top on it! I have one and think they're great! Amazon have the 4 gig version (good for an hours recording) for just under £100, link here! Its really easy to use too, just turn on, press the red button on the front to start/stop recording!Useful is beautiful0

Movie cameras tend to be used less frequently than you'd assume.
I spotted this Panasonic TZ8 on offer for £162, excellent spec and can also be used for taking seroiusly good stills.

I'd recommend the Kodak Zx1 ,you can get them from £50 online, plus you need to get an SD memory card ,under a tenner for 8GB online. They are a bit "rubberised" and dust/water resistant so may be less fragile than ,say, a mino. Zx1 uses AA rechargables and can take still photos as well. Battery life is good.
One button record, comes with all cables, hdmi,av and batteries/charger!. I have a minohd as well but prefer the Zx1 myself.0
