Thoughts on carpet please ...

My bedroom carpet is passed it, its flat and got loads of marks that wont come out (cream coloured carpet, black marks)
We can't afford a new hessian/weave back carpet, but can afford felt. I know it's not as good, but frankly, I really don't care.
My questions is ... I have the large pax wardrobes along one wall of my bedroom, they are crammed with stuff and the gap down one side is around 20cm.
I was thinking of having the carpet laid around the wardrobes as opposed to moving them and continued down the side of the wardrobes - but is this just me being lazy?
I think I know the answer to my question .. but wanted some other thoughts

When we moved into our house, the previous owners had done just this. I probably wouldn't have changed the carpet straight away but I had to then."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

I wouldn't carpet around wardrobes personally. If you needed to change them it would cause loads of hassle.
You could have the carpet cleaned professionally. We had cream carpets in the lounge that quickly got very grubby. For about £30 a room the guy did them with an industrial cleaner and they were like new after about 40 mins. As it's a bedroom carpet that not many people will see, it would be a cheap alternative to recarpeting - save your money for the areas visitors see.0 -
One thing to be aware of when getting carpets cleaned is that if the black marks are caused by dust being blown through the back of the carpet through gaps in floorboards and at skirting edges, then cleaning may not solve the problem and dust marks will reappear. Vacuuming makes these marks worse as it pulls the dust up through the carpet.:A0
