Taba to Cairo

  • Take into account as well that the exchange rates seem better over there. We didn't manage to haggle on excursions, to do that you would have to go with a local company and would not be guaranteed a decent bus.

Cairo is fantastic - we stayed in Giza for a weekend in a hotel overlooking the Pyramids, as you say they have to be seen to be believed! Try to make sure you can get to see the museum as well, absolutely incredible, I was nearly overcome when I saw King Tut's mask!

    Have a wonderful time.

    Hi Guys,

Sorry me again, thanks for all your replies so far very helpful.Would any of you recommend going for an overnight stay at Cairo? I know it will be just as tiring as a one day visit, but I guess it would be 'worth' it to stay at these attractions longer and possibly get some shopping in as Taba is quiet resort? Anyone also know whether these excursions involve alot of walking - suppose I should ask that when I book the excursion?

    Thanks

  • Hi,
We went to Taba about 4 years ago with our 9 year old and did the day trip to Cairo by bus. The kids seem to cope fine- sleep alot of the way. You get a packed lunch for the bus for brekkie, have an interesting toilet stop , I think the journey was about 4 hours. In Cairo we got taken to see the Sphinx and Pyramids, the museum with King Tuts mask among other things, a meal in a traditional Egyptian restaurant and some free time browsing the bazaars. I don't think you would benefit any by staying overnight, you get to see plenty and even on the way out got to stop at MacDonalds for a kids treat !!! Spend the next day relaxing by the pool and snorkelling instead!!
Not too much walking involved, the bus takes you between places.

Few year back attempted this journey via 4x4.Not tourists though, working south of Taba, required a part that could only be had in Cairo. We turned back less than half way, far too many security stops, is this still the case and, hence the 4 hour journey time, bet Lawrence did it quicker on camel?

Ps, sourced another supplier next door in Aqaba!!
