Young driver car insurance a joke..

Im a young driver, and my insurance is due for renewal, its going to go up by nearly £300. My insurance has increased every year.. and ive only been driving for four years.

I have never claimed on my policy either.

Would a claim be affected, if i was to add my dad as a additional driver on my car insurance?

The only way it would be affected is if you put your dad as the PH and you as a ND when you are actually the main user.

If your the Policyholder though then its fine
  • put you dad or mum or any other female friend 30+ on as a named driver

this saved me around £500 when i was a young driver

make sure you put her on as a "named driver" otherwise its fronting and can get illegal in certain circumstances.
  • As above and shop around and cashback sites i.e quidco, topcashback.

I never renew with the same company each year as cheaper to shop around.
  • thanks.. if i add the additional driver, what would happen if a claim is made on the policy. Would it affect both driviers ncb?

If the accident is under your policy, regardless of who is driving (whether its the policyholder or named drivers) it affects the policyholders NCB.
  • Hi so it that why it works out cheaper.. as it would affect both persons ncb?
  • the main reason is it reduced the probability of you having an accident as the other person thats a lower risk may be driving

No.........if the policy is yours and your dad had an accident then it will only affect your NCD, his NCD is not affected.
  • oh ok.. so might be worth adding him as a additional driver.. as he wouldnt drive the car very often.. id say only a few times a year.

    what do you think??

Play around with the quote online - on your own (see how much) then add your dad and see the difference, or add an older female. Tweet the quotes to get the best price. I have never renew with same insurer in 2 consecutive years as I can always find new insurers to offer a better price. Dont forget quidco/topcashback etc for cashbacks.
