Mysterious Santander Direct Debit

I'm wondering if anyone has come across this.

Both my wife and myself have had seperate direct debits appear on our seperate First Direct current accounts.

Neither of us have any store cards/ credit cards or anything else with Santander or the companies they provide finance for. The DD had Santander cards against it if this helps.

On speaking to FD to cancel this direct debit it appears we are not the only ones this has happened to and they've had a few calls about the same problem

Has anyone any idea what Santander are up to or had this happen to them.

I would say contact Santander with urgency. It could be fraud being committed against you by an individual.

The problem is I'm not a customer of Santander and I'm not happy giving them any of my details.

My bank is aware and will contact Santander but there's a marker on both accounts against any further transactions.

But as I said were not the only one.
  • Your not the only one mitchec. I was starting the monthly bill run and I spotted a new one from Santander. Now I did have a ToysRUs card which is now just being paid off.

Anyone get contact details for Santander?? Being trying 0113 2807080 since yesterday and frankly getting sick of 1:The damn hold muzac.. 2:Being cut off after 30mins GRRRRR

    Thanks

Sounds like somebody could be committing fraud using Santander as a front, and you are right, it could be happening to several people. Luckily because it is a direct debit, if anything gets debited, invoke the guarantee for a refund.

I've made my bank aware that if they receive any Santander DD's they're fraudulent and not to authorise them and can they contact me.
  • AHA!.......

Oh lord almighty what a mess this sounds like!!... Thanks to sayno0870 found a number I hadn't tried  and finally got through to a nice chap who explained that Santander are moving all the GE Money accounts across to their own system (hence the new DD details) as they were paying "rent" to GE.

Personally it sounds like a receipe for disaster as I don't recall EVER receiving a letter saying they were doing this. And personally I'm still half tempted to ask FD to kill that DD until I get something in writing.

So possibly mystery solved. Would be nice if someone else gets a similar confirmation then I'll completely chill about it.

GE Capital (many storecards use) DDs are now Santander so could be storecard finance.
  • It Santander related cards who started charging people for not paying even though they had? Wonder if this is related?

Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.
