with BT and currently go through best minutes to call egypt mobile at 8p per minute which is excellent, but..................
when looking through phone bill they charge from the moment they connect so if other person takes ages or connection is bad it all adds up - an extra £35 without talking to someone.
any other suggestions much appreciated
thanks

Unfortunately, although there are a number of providers on the MSE International CallChecker apparently offering cheaper rates (4p, 5p, 6p and 7p per minute), most involve the use of 0844 and 0871 gateway numbers - and that means you'd still start paying for the call after the 11th digit (i.e. before you'd even keyed the first digit of your target number).
Nevertheless, for PSTN, they appear to be the best available.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Thanks Heinz
I am with BT anytime package and worked out they charge 8p connection for the 0871 i assume roughly the same for 0844 option? - i guess no way to overide these charges
I have looked into phone cards but they don't seem any cheaper.
Still cheaper than BT, i guess i have have a go at some of the 3, 4p etc a minute.
I spend more on the ringing and bad connections than i do on the calls:mad:

You'll be lucky! BT's call set-up fee for non-inclusive calls went up to 10.9p on 1-10-2010.rayofsunshine wrote: »I am with BT anytime package and worked out they charge 8p connection for the 0871 i assume roughly the same for 0844 option? - i guess no way to overide these chargesTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. For all calls which aren't inclusive in your package (unless a higher fee applies e.g. some 118xxx calls).rayofsunshine wrote: »for the 0844 numbers?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
