flight looks likely to be cancelled help

hi we are planning to flight from Edinburgh to Krakow this Sunday. Edinburgh airport been shut for two days now, opening again today but more snow forecast for weekend. Where do we stand if we cant fly? Ryanair website say you can get free transfer onto next flight but we are only going for two nights so this would be no use.
Will we get money back? paid for flights with prepaid mastercard, hotel with visa credit card. Hotel website says we can only cancel hotel up to 3rd december but we have no way of knowing on 3rd if flight will go ahead on 5th. Any advice appreciated.

If you check the Ryanair website I think you can also get a refund but dont quote me.

In terms of the hotel you will have to claim on your holiday insurance.

If the flight is cancelled it is your option to transfer (rebook) onto next available flight or get a complete refund.

If there is a danger the flight may be cancelled, why don't you cancel your hotel now and get a refund and book another hotel which allows you to cancel FOC or lose only one night's rate at a much later time than the hotel you have currently reserved.

problem with this is for a decent hotel ie andels, we will still lose over a hundred euros for losing just one nights rate if we cant make it. and 25 if we cancel now.
there is also the travel lodge at this end and the car parking, we have travel insurance with bank of scotland, have to check what this covers when oh comes home. its his policy.
dont know whether to hope for best and try and claim it all back on insurance or credit card if it falls thro.

Double check the excess on your insurance policy, for some risks it is per person and not per claim if you have a joint policy.

just did, £50 per person and doesnt cover accomodation in GB unless 3 days or more. So no help for travel lodge. Told partner to change this account of BOS, never been any use to use for over £12 per month.

If you are going to use insurance to make a claim, be careful cancelling in advance. The flight may operate in which case the insurers will not pay a penny if you cancel now just to keep your other costs down. According to the BBC weather site, the snow will stop in Edinburgh by Thursday and Friday will be sunny...but at night it looks as though it might be well below zero.If your flight is not first thing in the morning, it may well operate in which case you will lose everything, if you don't cancel now then your hotel costs may increase, one of the risks of booking everything separately to 'save money' Good luck whichever decision you make

You won't be able to claim off credit card unless the hotel fails to provide you with what you booked. Unfortunately if the room is there available and waiting for you but you can't get there section 75 won't help

I would have another look at the policy. A 2 or 3 day minimum hotel booking limitation is often included for stays that are purely in the UK. I doubt it would apply if it was part of a trip abroad.
