Get a new account transfer all the DD and SO,
Empty this one and put a hold on it so that he cannot draw funds.
Tell them you want it closed or your name taking off the account.0 -
Thanks for the reply;
One of the main reasons for taking ownership is currently I pay LTSB a monthly fee of £9 for using the account ; BUT they wont downgrade it it needs his agreement\signature...
Would ur solution still work??
The account is at MY current address??
Thanks

They don't downgrade it for an account for you because they need his signature.
You can take your name off the account with your signature. Do it, then it's in his name.
Say to your OH that as he is not complying you have done this, and that he is being charged £9 a month for the account, so unless he wants the debt, he should go and close the account.
Don't do this until you have changed over DDs, Salary etc. EVERYTHING.0 -

I would be setting up another account with another banks and moving stuff over anyway
Go into a branch ask to speak to the manager/someone senior.
Explain the situation.
If no joy ask for the complaints process.
I think you should be able to feeze an account and stop all future liabilities including the fees, if the account is in credit.0 -
I dont understand why you would have your payments made into an account, that he could still make withdrawals on if he wanted to. As others have suggested, take your name off the account and open a brand new current account in your name and transfer everything over. Thats the first thing I'd have done as soon as there was even an inkling the relationship was in trouble!Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0

The natwest froze our joint account when I split with my ex-h, the cashier kindly suggested I withdrew the contents without going overdrawn before handing my cards and cheque book over.
5 yrs later, in a new house I was still getting statements with his name on showing a 7p balance, finally they saw sense and closed the account without his signature0
