    it doesnt matter whether you have two jobs, which each pay less than the limits. You are supposed to pay NI and tax, based on your total income, from all jobs

    That's true for tax, but not for NI. NI is calculated on EACH job. If you earn over about £90 per week from ONE employer, you'll pay some NI, but if no single employer pays you more than that each week you will NOT pay any NI. Even if you have five separate jobs, if each one pays you less than the limit at which you have to start paying, you pay no NI.

    To the OP, you're right about the HRP (Home Responsibilities Protection), you get that if you're claiming Child Benefit. BUT I don't know that it counts for things like SMP, may only count for your pension contributions.

    I know ACAS has a telephone helpline, if Working Families do too I would give them a ring.
