Hi have just found out i am pregnant, i currently do cleaning and do 2 sites for my boss,i earn £108 a week, the thing is i have been thinking of reducing it to only one site which would only give me £63 a week, would doing this effect my maternity pay, also if i kept doing the 2 sites up till maternity leave when i returned could i say that i only want to do one site (the higher paid one) or can my boss just place me anywhere, hope it makes sense
Thanks amanda

If you drop down you will drop below the £84 limit and lose maternity pay. This now an even bigger issue as you should get 9 months maternity pay at 90% of your pay (as you are relatively low paid) rather than the old 6 months assuming your baby is due after 1st April 2007.
Have a look at this info on the government site maternity pay - and this link shows other information more general infoAdventure before Dementia!0 -
Hi there,
Congratulations! :j
I'd tell you what happened to me (my son is now 7months) but as the rules are changing you are best to try a few scenarios and work out the best for you. This is an extremely useful site tool for this http://tiger.direct.gov.uk/cgi-bin/maternity.cgi
I hope this helps and good luck for the future

Thanks to all who have replied, will have a look at the web sites you mentioned and do some working out
Thanks amanda0 -
Hi me agagin was looking at the websites you mentioned and am again a bit confused, you see i work for the same boss but he has two different companies and work for one at one site and the other company at the other,so when working out earnings can i combine the both even though different companies?
He is on about merging the 2 companies sometime in jan next year but on one of the sites it said you had to of worked for the same employer for 26wks before due date and that date for me is 15 dec this year which will still be the two companies
Sorry if not making sense, but hope i am as so confused0 -
As this is a more complicated question (and I fear you may not get the answer you really want!) then it may be worth contacting either Working Families or ACAS.
Do you pay any national insurance on either job? That might affect your entitlement to Maternity Allowance if you end up not entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Hi looked at websites still getting in a pickle, i dont pay National Insurance at any job but as i already got two children i thought i was still somehow paying as i get child benefit think it was called HRP?????,
Think a trip to CAB may be needed0 -
You might find that you are entitled to Maternity Allowance rather than Maternity pay from your employer.
Thats what i will get and its £108 per week.
But - it does depend on a lot of different things and the fact that you dont pay NI might influence that.
My baby is due in 7 weeks so i only get the 6 months. Bad luck, bad timing for me sadly...
Ah well!
Goo dluck with the baby!

i thought that on £108 week, you would have to pay NI?
However as long as you earn over £79 a week, you should still be entitled to full SMP. so dropping your hours would mean that you would fall below this, and therefore might only be entitled to maternity allowance

Also it is law that you can return to the same job you were doing originally or the emplyer has to find you a suitable alternative that you both agree on. You can also go back and then decide how many hours etc you require to work this is part of parental rights.Saving needed to emigrate to Oz*September 2015*
£11,860.00 needed = £1,106 in savings
