Help me heat my cellar!

We have made the cellar into a bit of a den for my son. It already had laminate floor down and plaster boarded walls so can't do much about insulation now. It has a double glazed window with a sort of well that goes up to a grate in the pavement. It is colllllllllllllllllllllld down there.

I bought an oil filled radiator from Netto but it was only 800w and did not give off any heat although the radiator itself got hot. Am I best to go for a bigger oil filled radiator or a fan heater? Many thanks

800W is pretty weedy (think 8 x100W light bulbs), you will need something more like 2 or 3kW to warm it properly, depending on the size.
All electric heaters have exactly the same efficiency (100%) so it doesn't make any difference which sort you buy-an oil filled rad will warm up slower but retain the heat longer, the fan heater the opposite.
It may have escaped your attention that it is below freezing in most of the UK at present...

Thank you Macman for pointing out the weather - much appreciated - hadn't noticed :)

The cellar door is most definitely shut for now as not venturing out to buy anything else at the moment but hadn't really appreciated how weedy the one I bought was. Will probably go for a fan heater then if they are all as efficient and electricity burning as the rest.

    Many thanks
