Hi all,
After some advice. My Dad wants a gigajuke for Christmas, so my Mum has asked me to investigate. As far as I can tell its like a digital juke box but I can't see the difference between that and an iPod plus a docking station? Other than the fact the iPod can be taken anywhere.
Are there any benefits of the gigajuke over the ipod plus dock? I'm a bit of a novice in this area! any help would be much appreciated!:A

I had exactly the same conversation with my 70yr old + in laws
In the end, they went for a 5th gen Nano & a JBL speaker/Dock. The seller being that it was just as easy to load music to the pc as the jukebox, and the combo of the 2 made the music fully portable inside and away from the home.
Now I am being pestered to fit an Ipod adaptor to the car (FM transmitter is not good enough for them now!)0 -
On Sony's own website, they link to Reevoo (impartial reviews), which awards it 5.5 out of 10 ....

Thanks for this!
I think I've convinced them to go for an ipod plus dock.
Cripes, now I've got to figure out which is the best ipod to buy! :eek:0 -

depends how much they want to spend.
I have a 3rd gen 32gb Ipod Touch. Never had an Ipod before so cannot comment of other ranges.
But mine goes everywhere with me. I have almost 12000 photos, 40+ albums, games, 25+ films and more. I did wonder if I would ever watch a film on it, but now I am quite happy when I stay away, to sit in bed late and night with my headphones in and watch a full length feature film. I can get my emails when in range of the net. I can use it online as well.
Latest generation (4th) has a camera as well although it's only 0.7 Mp.
Did look at maybe getting an Ipad, (still keeping the Touch), but think I will stick with the Touch until next year, as there may be an upgraded Ipad out in the spring0 -
OK, well you've asked for the difference, so here it is - A gigajuke has a hard drive inside, so you'll have your music library in it without having to plug your iPod into it. I've got one and am very happy with it, bit slow to add the music (from CD or a USB drive) but that's a one -time job.0

I'm even less sure what to do now - thanks for your own experiences though!
billtrac - i have an ipod classic and an iphone - the classic is more than big enough for all the songs but ive seen the fun the iphone can bring (which is basically the fun that the touch could bring - without the phone bit of course!). However, even 3rd generation ipod touch is £200 for 32Gb - will that be big enough for 200+ albums???
Any other advice on this would be much appreciated!0 -

depending what size you rip them, lossless or high quality mp3 or aac, at 4MB a file 15 tracks per album and 200 albums it comes out 12GB so should be plenty. (that's prob a bit rate of 256kbs mp3 still you wont notice much if any sound quality loss over 320kbs (or even lossless))
I would go ipod + speaker dock, completely depends which ipod to get I would go touch as it is easy to use and they may learn to use it for email and low level internet browsing (if they have wifi) or something like a nano or classic for more dedicated music playback. all can be had cheap and in good condition 2nd hand.
I think the main one is sound quality of the speaker dock and what size room it is going to fill, also one that comes with a remote control will be a must so they dont have to get up to change tracks. you can even get a snazzy like this, most speaker docks also come with line in so they can use it to listen to sound from another device aswell (also if you go for an expensive dock for maximum sound quality you will want to use lossless tracks to get the maximum out of it)
or (this is the final addition I promise) if they already have a good hifi which they can use (and has a line in) then you can just buy a universal dock instead of buying a whole speaker dock (but I would wait a few days as apple are releasing their new universal dock soon (comes with the new apple remote)) but it is quite expensive for what it is I must admit (perhaps you can get an old or 2nd hand one for cheaper)
