Does anyone live in or near Manchester and can give help ?

Hi

I am taking my Daughter to Manchester this weekend and we are staying at the Novotel Manchester West, which is in Worsley.
It's about 5 miles out, but I need to know what is the best way to get in and out of the city. I don't want to drive.
Many thanks

    Taxi. .

Don't be fooled by my location. I lived in the NW for 20+ years.
  • The hotel will be the best people to advise you. The hotel has good reviews on Trip Advisor and there might be some advice re travel to the centre from the people who have stayed there if you want to check that.

    Good advice. Thankyou.

  • Before Beeching you could have got the train there, but really your only option now is either to walk, or get a taxi. There will be buses going that way but I don't know what frequency they're at.

The Bridgewater Canal is right next to your hotel. If you fancy a walk, its quite picturesque, and the water is a deep orange due to iron oxide from Worsley Delph. The centre of Worsley really is a lovely place, don't miss it, its one of the most important towns in the history of England's industrial revolution.
  • Check that comfort zone of yours!!!

The subway and train connections are EASY!!

(By the way, it would be harder to get from Providence to Middle borough without a car than it is from Manchester).

Take the free shuttle bus all the way to the Orange Line subway. Thence the Orange Line only to Downtown Crossing (only 5 stops), switch to the Red Line only one stop to South Station and the Middle borough train.

It IS the easiest way!!!!!!!! For sure:beer::T
  • Worsley isn't great for public transport.

Nearest Tram is Eccles (I think) so you'll probably have to get a bus, my friend used to live out there and it's a number 33. Didn't seem to be too reliable on an evening as she was always late meeting up (or she could have just been washing her hair too long lol)

I think taxi into town was cheap, but on the way back it could be a bit random as black cabs would claim it was out of region and take it off the meter and generate a random price.

    Hi,

Bus services 26 and 33 will get you into Manchester - have a look here and type in the service number to get the timetable and a route map, The hotel will be able to point you in the direction of the bus stops.

Service 33 runs every 15 mins daytime Mon-Sat, hourly evenings and Sundays.
Service 26 runs every 30 mins daytime Mon-Sat, hourly evenings and Sundays.

If you didn't mind a bit of driving, there is a Park and Ride for the Eccles Metrolink at Ladywell tram stop.
  • You're all great. Thankyou. :j
I think we shall either get one of the buses or the park and ride. Don't really know Manchester at all anymore..even though I grew up in Blackpool and all of my relatives lived in the Greater Manchester area. It's been so long since I visited...everything will have changed.
Once again, thankyou for all of your help. :)
