Duinrell is great and really easy access to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague so even if the weather is bad you can find plenty to do.

  • Pack raincoats for Duinrell- showers are frequent at all times of year. However, rain doesn't really matter there to be honest- we go in October when it's virtually empty. Unless you've booked with Canvas, remember to factor in pool passes now as the other companies no longer do 2 hours a day free. Have fun!

Is it cold in October? We are going 4-11 September so hoping be a bit warmer however I have been told to expect the rain from others. TBH we went to Orlando last June/July and it rained solid for a few days but didnt spoil our fun just need to dress appropriately. Is there anything nearby that is worth doing? Doubt would be spending the whole week onsite so if anyone has any suggestions that would be fab.
  • It can vary a lot. Year before last, it was freezing- the gas fire, oven etc were on continually to thaw the caravan, but didn't have much effect. We had winter ski gear, but were still cold.

However, same week last year we went better prepared, we bought a 2kw fan heater to warm the bedrooms with. When we got there, my partner upgraded us to some new vans they had, which had heaters in every room. Guess what? When it wasn't raining, we were sitting outside in T-shirts! Sods law.

It really shouldn't be too bad in Sept tho. Do take a walk or three into the town- it's a lovely ten min (depending on which side of the site you're on- it's huge!) stroll, mostly pedestrianised. Ask the rep to point you at the c1000, much cheaper than the site shop, and they have a free tea & coffee machine- with cup holders in the trolleys!

Definately do Amsterdam if you can, and the Dolphinarium at Haarjerwick (ish!) is a bit of a drive, but a great day out. :) You can spend quite some time exploring the sand dunes & the woods too if the weathers good. There's an observation tower hidden away, fantastic views from the top.
