I luckily live near a chocolate factory so have a carrier bag full of chocolate pumpkins and bars which only cost me £4 - bargain!!!! We live on a large estate in the middle of nowhere and all the kids go out. Most people decorate their houses and a lot of adults get involved too - it is a lovely family affair round here. My ghosts are already in the window waiting!!!

We were in the local tescos over the weekend when a gang of teenager hoodies were rumaging through the halloween display, trying on the 15p masks. They were joking about how they were going to go round all the old peoples houses because they would be too scared not to "cough up" and it made me so so mad. They thought it was hilarious they could get masks all round for only a quid and were already planning which one was going to the offie that night with their "earnings" And I can't be ar$ed with the hassle of turning gangs of lads away and am not up for spending the night peeping through the blinds to see who's knocking.
ANYWAY....with little kids Halloween is fun..we have three little ones of our own.Soooo I'm locking the gate, turning the lights of in the front and moving my car so it doesn't get egged :p And we have costumes, hanging spiders, treats and pumpkins etc etc for the kids....even costumes for mum and dad(any excuse!)...so halloween this year is cancelled from the front of our house but in full swing out the back;)

Well, I bought mini bags of sweets, 10p each. Total cost £1.00. Kids will get a bag each and I am sure hubby will demolish the rest.

Usually we get a parent of the children who come to the door, so I can't tell them to get lost but giving them sweets they might not like might be enough to keep them away next year.

    Thanks for all your tips/ideas.

My friend was in a bar in a busy city centre last night at about 9.30pm and a group of kids on their own came into the bar trick or treating. I shudder to think about the attitude of those parents and what could have happened to those kids, let alone what they'll turn out like in years to come!
When did I get this old!?!
  • Some of these Halloween stories are so sad.
I have three kids and we look really forward to Halloween every year.
I carve out a huge pumpkin and make a fantastic spicy soup with it every year. The pumpkin gets left on the doorstep, which in our part of the world means its okay to come trick or treating.
So, I get a few bags of mixed chocolates or whatever.....and we all go out when it gets dark to ring doorbells (only those with a pumpkin outside of course) and when we get back a couple of hours later, we put our pumpkin out and sit down for some nice hot soup. And wait for some late ghouls and witches to come to us.... it's great fun. My kids love giving out treats almost as much as getting them.
It's once a year, I don't want to count pennies......
    Whoooooooooo everyone!

I'm a bit of a Victor Meldrew when it comes to Halloween cos' it's an American thing so i'm a bit stuffy about it.
However, when the little ones come round, great. My wife and i always have a few chocs when my niece and some of her friends comes round with my sis !:rotfl:

However, when the little thugs start banging on the door, i try to ignore them but if it gets too bad ( they really p***** us off last year) they will get boiling chip fat i think!!

You've been warned you little bastads!!

  • It's a common misconception that Halloween is American, the modern commercial version may be but it was around long before they got their hands on it!

This year I've bought a big bag of lollipops from the local pound shop. My Mum likes being traditional and gives out small apples and lets the kids have a dip into the jar of pennies she collects during the year.
  • I'm turning the lights off and hiding behind the sofa! I dont believe in halloween- Its a form of begging.
